Lutes Fall to Concordia Despite Game-High 14 Points From Voorhies
GEORGETOWN, Tex. - Pacific Lutheran senior post Emily Voorhies led all players with 14 points on Monday night, but it wasn't enough for the Lutes as they dropped a 62-42 decision to Concordia (Wis.) at the Southwestern University Invitational.
With the loss, the Lutes (5-3) face tournament host Southwestern in the consolation game at 4 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday, while Concordia (5-3) advances to the title contest against Dubuque (Iowa).
Voorhies made 7-of-15 field goal attempts and also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, but poor second half shooting doomed the Lutes. Concordia held a narrow 24-22 halftime lead, but PLU shot just 30 percent in the final period.
Concordia grabbed 48 rebounds, including 21 on the offensive end, and used that to its advantage, scoring 17 second-chance points and getting to the foul line 21 times, converting 14 of those. The Lutes, who had a total of 39 rebounds, managed only seven second-chance points and shot only seven free throws during the game.
Pearl Wallace led Concordia with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
