Lutes Pick Up Victory Over Finlandia in PNW Invitational
PARKLAND, Wash. - Trinity Gibbons scored 12 points to lead Pacific Lutheran as the Lutes defeated Finlandia University, 71-41, in the third game of the Pacific Northwest Lutheran Invitational basketball tournament being held at Pacific Lutheran University's Olson Auditorium.
Pacific Lutheran improves its season record to 3-1, while Finlandia dropped to 0-5.
Gibbons was supported by Jordan Westering, who had 10 points and three offensive rebounds for the night. Melissa Richardson also tied with Gibbons for team-high rebounding honors with six, and she added three assists. Of the 13 Pacific Lutheran players to see action in the game, 11 scored and every one of them grabbed at least one rebound.
Finlandia's Ally Tincknell led all players with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Pacific Lutheran led at the half, 35-17, and the second period was no different. PLU coach Kelly Warnke turned to her bench, which offered no reprieve for the Lions. Neither team shot well as both shot 36 percent for the game. The Lutes got 33 more shots off than the Lions and they forced the visitors from Michigan into 28 turnovers while giving the ball away only 11 times.
Both teams play tomorrow, Finlandia (Mich.) meeting Concordia-Portland meeting at 2 p.m. and host Pacific Lutheran playing Wartburg at 6 p.m.
