Scott's Big Game Helps Lutes Defeat Pioneers, 64-52
PARKLAND, Wash. - Nikki Scott scored 13 points, dished out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Pacific Lutheran to a 64-52 Northwest Conference women's basketball victory over Lewis & Clark College on Saturday night in Olson Auditorium.
Scott, a 5-7 senior guard from Gig Harbor, was a catalyst in the second half, helping the Lutes (8-3 overall, 2-0 NWC) move from a four-point halftime margin to lead by as much as 19 points. Scott's three-point field goal gave the Lutes a 33-23 lead with 18:14 remaining in the game, and from that point on Lewis & Clark was unable to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
One night after Puget Sound had shot extremely well in a victory over Lewis & Clark, the Pioneers again faced another hot-shooting team in the Lutes. PLU finished the game making 26-of-52 attempts from the field though the margin of victory could have been much more significant had the Lutes been even respectable at the foul line. PLU managed to make just 11-of-31 at the charity stripe, or 36 percent. The Pioneers, meanwhile, shot 19-of-69 from the field, 28 percent, and just 10-of-22 at the foul line, or 46 percent.
Emily Voorhies had a double-double for the Lutes with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Melissa Pixler added 12 and Trinity Gibbons contributed seven points and nine rebounds. The Lutes had a minor 48-46 advantage in rebounding. The Lutes had 21 assists on their 26 field goals.
Megan Spence had a big game off the bench for the Pioneers with 17 points, including a 3-of-6 performance from beyond the three-point line. Christina Herring added 11 points for the Pioneers, most of those in the closing minutes. Margaret led the Pioneers with eight rebounds and Kimberly Kittell contributed five assists.
