TACOMA, Wash. - James Okubo capped off his collegiate career in style on Sunday, securing a win at No. 1 doubles as the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team fell 8-1 to 13th-ranked Whitman College at the Lakewood Racket Club.

The Lutes' (3-13, 3-9 Northwest Conference) Okubo and Ryan Adams prevailed at No. 1 doubles, edging the Blues' (20-6, 10-0 NWC) Adam Rapoport and Alex Hwang. The victory was Okubo's 23rd win in doubles play, closing out his PLU career on a high note. Niko Convento and Justin DeMattos fell 8-4 at No. 2 doubles while Chan Thourk and Keith Petitt fell 8-3.

"James and Ryan were the stars of Senior Day, beating Whitman's No. 1 in an epic match," said John Cassens. "James will be missed and we wish him the best of luck as he prepares to graduate."

In singles, Ryan Adams dropped a, 6-1, 6-2, decision to Hwang at No. 1 while Convento was bested, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Thourk and John Woelfel both battled hard in the second set of their matches, falling by identical, 6-0, 6-4, scorelines at No. 5 and No. 6.
