PLU Explodes for Five in Victory at George Fox

Box Score

NEWBERG, Ore. - Scoring the most goals that they have since an early season 6-2 rout of Saint Mary's (Minn.), Pacific Lutheran rolled to a 5-1 Northwest Conference men's soccer victory over the host George Fox Bruins on Sunday afternoon.

Derek Karamatic picked up a pair of goals against the Bruins (2-13-3 overall, 1-9-2 NWC) to give him three for the weekend. He tallied a goal in the Lutes' 2-0 win over Willamette on Saturday. Other PLU goal scorers were Spencer Augustin, Chad Kearns and Scott Parsons.

It took the Lutes (8-8-2 overall, 6-5-2 NWC) to get on the board, but once they did they had no trouble in adding to their total. Parsons started it for the Lutes in the 41st minute, scoring his first goal of the season on an assist from Spencer Augustin. Less than two minutes later, it was Kearns with his second goal of the season, the assist going to Peter Thomas.

Pacific Lutheran expanded its 2-0 halftime lead in the 50th minute when Augustin took a cross from Lance Davis and finished for his third goal of the campaign. That's when Karamatic got into the act. He tallied his fifth goal of the season in the 71st minute with the assist going to Ricky Morales, and after a George Fox goal 45 seconds later from Keith Marshall, Karamatic ended the scoring in the 74th minute, knocking in the rebound of his own shot.

The Lutes dominated the action pretty much from start to finish, pounding a total of 31 shots, 12 of which were on goal. George Fox managed just seven shots, including two on goal. PLU also took 10 corner kicks to just one for the Bruins.

Pacific Lutheran finishes its 2008 season at 1:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts the Linfield Wildcats in a Northwest Conference contest.
